Nieman - Week of 1 Feb

It's Science Fair Week at City Tree!

Here are just a few reminders and tips to consider...

  • Be sure you have all the pieces of your SF project together.
  • Take pictures...then be sure to print them out in time to mount or display them.
  • Edit and proofread all of the contents for your final binder.
  • Be sure you have practiced and rehearsed what you will say to the judges as an introduction.
  • Stage all your stuff by the front door before bed on Tuesday 2 Feb.
  • Be ready to present your SF project to your classmates on Wed 3 Feb.
  • Get a good night's sleep on Wed night.
  • Dress to impress! Be sure you have chosen what you'll wear ahead of time.

Great job on all aspects of your projects: reading, writing, editing, presenting, displaying, experimenting, questioning, and reasoning.

7th Life Science

GREAT job on all SF work so far. I remain impressed with all the work, attention to the smallest detail, and focus you've shown me.

We're on the downward slope; now its time to tie all the elements together and make your finished project.

Next week will be split between a few SF work days and resuming with the curriculum.

The following week (Mon 1 Feb) is Science Fair Week. Class time will be spent on finalizing your projects, Binders, and doing a trial run-through.

This trial run-through is scheduled for Wed 3 Feb in class.

A detailed parent schedule will go out soon.

PLEASE email me with questions...now's the time to ask for help or clarification; don't wait 'till the SF...it'll be too late then!

8th US History

Continuing our study of Ch 7 and the sub-unit - The American Indian.

Please visit the library, select some books, sit and preview them, then check out just the few that interest you...remember the way I modeled this for you in class.

NO assignments outside of class this week or next. All activities will be completed in class. Next week a more detailed announcement will be made about upcoming assignments.

It's Science Fair work week in class!
Please come prepared EACH day to do something productive on your SF project.
TWO assignments are due this week - Data Table (Wed) and Data Analysis (Fri)

Great job on ALL you are doing in class...working independently and at your own pace...helping each other...asking questions...making your work the BEST it can be. I'm proud of you!


8th US History

We've shifted out of the foundations of America and are on a course now (Ch 7) to expand and apply the ideals set forth during the Revolution as well as the first few presidents under the Constitution.
Will these ideas hold? What are the consequences of our westward expansion? How do we feel about these things today in Modern America?

ASSIGNMENTS:

I will be intentionally light in assignments this week and next as the Science Fair looms on the horizon (Thurs 4 Feb).

This week we'll begin an Indian unit in conjunction with Ch 7.

There will be NO homework (Yippee!) this week or next. We will be doing some readings in class (provided) and watching a few short scenes from a DVD.

There will be a quiz on the readings next week.

Students need to go to their local public library and check out a few books about Indians.

This week begins the real intense work of drawing all the loose ends together into the final product. Stay on top of the due dates and keep up the EXCELLENT work you're all doing...hard work pays off!

As far as textbook assignments go for this week, we will have a brief, open-note quiz on Ch 7 on Friday 15 Jan.


8th US History

We've finished Frontier House and are underway with Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, and Westward exploration.

Students have been given a two-sided chapter review outline to complete for this chapter.

As mentioned, little will be devoted here to Life Science assignments as we've shifted gears into SF work. I will instead provide tips, thoughts, and ideas here about SF work progress. On occasion, Life Science assignments/information will be posted here as usual.
  • Please stay on top of SF assignments, due dates, and your experiments - if you have yet to do your experiment, do so very soon...there are other components to the SF that hinge on the experiment results.
  • Be sere to take pictures and document what it is you are doing all along the way.
  • Think about what you will have on display for your manipulative component.
